Postoperative Radiotherapy for Cerebellar Astrocytomas

  • From Sept. 1975 to Sept. 1990, 38 patients with cerebellar astrocytomas were treated by combining surgery with postoperative radlation. Follow up study for 5 to 20 years. The 5, 10 and 15 year survival rate was 77.8%, 83.3% and 71.4%, respectively.for patients who had completed resection and postoperative radiation and 66.7 %, 55.6 % and 60.0%, respectively. for those had subtotal resection and postoperative radiation (P> 0.05 ). Partial resection patients who with the brain stem invaded were all 100%, respectively. The current results indicated that postoperative radiotherapy may be very important measures in treatment of cerebellar astrocytomas.
