Abstract:
Objective To investigate the relationship of Annexin A2 expression with the clinical characteristics and prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) patients. Methods We collected 131 cases of cancer tissues from the patients who were newly diagnosed as NPC. Annexin A2 expression was detected by immunohistochemistry method. Clinical data including gender, age, histological type, and tumor stage of patients were analyzed by SPSS18.0 software. The relationship between the expression of Annexin A2 protein, clinical stages, local recurrence and distant metastasis were investigated. Results The positive expression rate of Annexin A2 was 92.4% (121/131) in NPC tissues; however, there was no statistical significance in clinical Ⅰ-Ⅳ stage(
P>0.05). Patients with negative expression (negative group) of Annexin A2 had a higher local recurrence-free survival rate and distant metastasis-free survival rate than those of positive expression (positive group) (
P>0.05), but the curves between the two groups could be well opened. The pathological type was the independent factor of local recurrence-free survival after radiotherapy on NPC patients by univariate and multivariate analysis (
P=0.039). Conclusion The further investigation, whether there is a relationship between the high expression of Annexin A2 protein and local recurrence, distant metastasis of NPC, will be carried out by increasing the number of patients and prolonging the follow-up time.
