Abstract:
Malignant melanoma is an aggressive cancer with a propensity for distant metastasis and often fails to respond to chemotherapy and radiation therapy, resulting in poor prognosis. In recent years, the incidence rate of malignant melanoma increases rapidly in China. The majority of patients with early-stage melanoma can be cured by surgical excision, while for the advanced tumor, the standard chemotherapeutic approaches used in the treatment have been disappointing. The challenge for the oncologist in future will be to identify new chemotherapeutic regimens with high efficacy and low toxicity. Various therapeutic approaches have been studied and exciting advances have been made for the treatment of melanoma, this review summarized the treatments of malignant melanoma with a focus on literatures of recent years.
