POST-OPERATIVE RADIOTHERAPY OF SEMINOMA OF THE TESTIS

  • Thirty-eight patients with seminoma of the testis were treated in our hospital fiom October 1975 to June 1986. According to the Walter Reed Hospital Staging classification, the 5-year Survival rate was 72.7% for all stages, and 90.9% (20/22) for stage Ⅰ, 50% (4/8) for stage Ⅱ, 0% (0/3) for stage Ⅲ. Radiation doses ranged from 25 to 30 GT and was boosed 5-10 Gy for large masses None occured tumor recurrence in irradiation fields. Of 8 patients with stage Ⅱ, 4 cases developed metastasis on mediatinun or supraclavicular regions. It is necessary that prophylactic (?)irradiation of the mediastinum and supraclavi-cular regions for stage Ⅱ patients with testicular seminoma. Better effect can be expected in patients with single pulmonary metastasis lesiou using local irradiation.
