FNDOMETRIAL STROMAL TUMORS OF THE UTERUS——A CLINICAL AND PATHOLOGIC STUDY OF 10 CASES

  • We reviewed 10 cages of endometrial stromal tumorg treated in Cancer Institute (Hospital), Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from 1958 to 1988. All 10 patients had endolymphatic stromal myosis (ESM) (Low-grade endometrial stromal tumors). Mean age was 40.5 years. Eight patients were stage Ⅰ, one patient was stage Ⅱ and one patient had stage Ⅲ disease. Laparotomies revealed extrauterine spread in five patients wish stage Ⅰ or Ⅱ. Primary surgery was received, in all 10 patienst. Total abdominal hysterecsomy aodbilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed in 8 patients. Following hysterectomy; 8 patients received various adjuvant therapies. Twn Patients had recurrences at 4-yeart and 10 years after primary therapy respectively, and receivedtchometherapy crradiation. Objective responses were attained and the survival following treatment of recurrent disease was 2 years and 6 years respectively. It shows that even ESM is a malignant disease clinically but is a low-grade malignant tumor histologically, Treatment has been primarly surgical as well as adjuvant radiation and chemotherapy. Long period follow-up should be recommended.
