Estrogen and progesterone receptors, serum estradiol and progesterone levels and clinical signifiance in ovarian tumors

  • Fifty patients with ovedan tumor were analyzed for preoperative and postoperative serum estradiol(E2) and progesterone (P) contents. Cytosol and nuclear estrogen (ERc, ERn) and progesterone (PRc, PRn) receptors were measured with the Dextran-coated Charcoal method in 50 ovarian tumors and 6 normal ovarian specimens. The results indicated that the contents of ERc and PRc were higher and contents of ERn, PRn, E2, P were lower in malignant ovarian tumor than normal ovary and benign ovarian tumor. This suggested that E2 and P measurement of the patients with ovarisn tumor could aid in the selection of malignant ovarian tumor. Malignant ovarian tumor with hign concentration of ER and PR have the posibility of endocrine therapy and a better prognosis.
