Preliminary Experience in Intracavitary and External Irradiation for Esophageal Cancer

  • From April 1992 to August 1993, 42 patients suffering with esophageal cancer were treaed with intracavitary and external irradiation. Of these 42 patients, there were 32 cases of residual tu-mor and 6 cases with recurrent tumor after external irradiation, 2 cases with remainder tumor after surgery. Doses were given 40~60Gy/6~7W in external irra-diation, 5~8Gy/Per fraction in intracavitary therapy. The results were; CR and PR were 20 cases respectively, NR 2 cases. Effective rate wad 95.2%(40/42). The complications related to intrcavi-tary therapy were esophagorbage and exophagotrachea fistula.
