Preliminary Experience in Intracavitary and External Irradiation for Esophageal Cancer

Abstract
From April 1992 to August 1993, 42 patients suffering with esophageal cancer were treaed with intracavitary and external irradiation. Of these 42 patients, there were 32 cases of residual tu-mor and 6 cases with recurrent tumor after external irradiation, 2 cases with remainder tumor after surgery. Doses were given 40~60Gy/6~7W in external irra-diation, 5~8Gy/Per fraction in intracavitary therapy. The results were; CR and PR were 20 cases respectively, NR 2 cases. Effective rate wad 95.2%(40/42). The complications related to intrcavi-tary therapy were esophagorbage and exophagotrachea fistula.
