Abstract
Abstract Prostate tissu extracts from 20 patients with prostatic carcinoma (PC) and 20patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were quantitatively assayed for expression of immunoreactive transforming growth factor-β1, (TGF-β1 ) with sand-wich ELISA. The content of TGF-β1, was significantly higher in PC (2416±790. 6ng/g tissue) than that in BPH (1934. 2±673.0ng/g tissue). While the content of TGF-β1 in 4 normal prostates (459. 3 ± 187. 18ng/g tissue) was much lower than that in both experimental groups. The findings suggest that TGF-β1 may be biologically important not only in the physiological process of prostate but also in the development of PC and BPH.
