Medroxyprogesterone Acetate with Antiemetics: Efficacy in ControllingAnorexia, Nausea and Vomiting Induced by Chemotherapy

  • Anorexia, nausea and vomiting are common chemotherapy complications.Though the vomiting could be controlled with antiemitics generally, the anorexiaand nausea have not been dealed with successfully. This paper was developed toobsere the efficacy of Medroxyprogesterone Acetaote(MPA)in preventing thecomplications. The result showed that unchanged or improved appetite after chemotherapywas 73% in the MPA patients and 19% in the control group(P0. 005). No nausea occurrence was 63% and 29% respectivelyly (P0. 05). If anorexia was complained by the MPA patients.the strength andlength were less obviously than the control group. There did not have significant difference in controling the vomiting with MPA addition. Transient mild edema wasobserved in the MPA group. It is concluded that MPA with antiemetics can prevent better the anorexia andnausea induced by chemotherapy than antiemetics only.
