Abstract
A prospective randomized trial in 217 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients wasconducted from 1987 to 1989.The patients were randomized into two groups:107patients treated by linear-accelerator(8 MV-X),110 patients treated by telecobalt(60Co).The two groups were similar with srespect of The ages, sexes, clinicalstages, irradiation fiels, dosetime, factors, ect. The 5-year follow-up rate in overallgroup was 90 %. The 3, 5-years survival rates were 60. 8 % and 43. 8%, respectively. The 3, 5-years survival rates in the 8 MV-X group were 67. 3% and 49. 5%, in the60Co group were 54. 5% and 38. 2%,respectively.There was no nstatistically significant difference between the survival rates of the two groups(P0. 05).The remainof cervical lymph nodes at the end of irradiation and locol recurrence of 5-year rateswere 25. 6% and 11. 2% in the 8MV-X group, 34. 9% and 12. 7%in the 60Co group(P0. 05).
