Abstract
Objective :376 patients with pituitary adenoma were treated by transspllenoidal microsurgery in our department between July 1986 and O-ctober 1996.There were 239 females and 137 males. The patients ranged in age from 13 to 67 years with a mean of 38.9 years.Of the patients,152 (40.4%) were macr-oadenomas and 224(59.6%) were microadenomas. Methods :The diagnosis of disease was made by CT or MRI scanning.Operati-ons were performed via either sublabio-septo-sphenoidal approach or nasovestibulo-sphenoidal approach. Results :There were no deaths af-ter operation in this patient group.Long-term follow-up review(median 3.5 years)in 308 patients revealedgood recovery of 258 patients(83.8%), contrasted with a 16.9% late recurrence ratefor macroadenomas(41 cases)and microadenomas(11 cases). This patients with recurrence of tumor need to treat by again operative management, drug therapy, radiotherapy, and radiosurgery used either alone or combined. Conclusion :It is a safe and effective method by used the microsurgical technique via transsphenoidal approach to remove pituitary adenoma.
