Clinicopathologic Characteristics of 47 Cases of Cutaneous Melanoma

  • Objective To investigate clinicopathologic charactieristics, pathological classification and immunohistochemical features of melanoma. Methods Clinicopathologic data of 47 cases of melanoma in our hospital were collected and analyzed. The immumohistochemical staining of Vim, CEA, Ki-67, P53, Bcl-2, P16, HMB45, CyclinD1, MelanA, S-100, PCK and EMA were performed in 15 cases of the specimens. Results Forty-seven patients (31 males and 15 females), aged from 16 to 83 years (mean 52) were analysed. Thirty-two specimens were diagnosed as melanoma based on the pathological features directly, while the others according to the immumohistochemical staining results. Conclusion Melanoma, which shares some features of melanocyte, was difficult to diagnose in the early stage. The immunophenotypes, such as Vim, CEA, Ki-67, P53, Bcl-2 and P16 were helpful in differential diagnosis, whereas HMB45, CyclinD1, MelanA, S-100, PCK and EMA could reveal the charactieristics of this tumor and prompt pathological diagnosis.
