The Significance of STAT-1 Expression in Bladder Cancer

  • Objective This study was designed to investigate the role of STAT-1 in the pathogenesis of bladder cancer and its relationship with tumor biological behaviors. Methods The expression of STAT-1 in 88 cases of cancerous tissues and 12 cases of normal bladder tissues was determined by immunotistochemical staining. Results The protein expression rates of STAT-1 in bladder cancer and normal bladder tissues were 78. 4% and 41. 7%, respectively ( P = 0. 033) . Expression of STAT-1 in bladder cancer was correlated with tumor grade, stage and recurrence ( P = 0. 043, P = 0. 008 and P = 0. 002) . Conclusion Abnormality of STAT-1 may play an important role in the tumor genesis of bladder cancer. Determination of STAT-1 can be used to indicate the tumor biological behavior.
