Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of the comination of navelbine and carboplatin in the elderly with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) . Methods Thirty three patient s with locally advanced ( stage ⅢB) or metastatic ( stage Ⅳ) NSCLC were enrolled into the study. The patients received navelbine 25mg/ m2 on days 1, 8, and carboplatin AUC 5~6 on day 1, with 21~28 days as a cycle. Each patient received at least two cycles. Results Of the 33 patient s, there was none cases got complete response, 13 cases got partial response, 12 had stable disease, 8 had progressive disease, with an overall response rate 39. 4 % (13/ 33) . The median survival duration was 11 months. There were 75. 8 % (25/ 33) patient s whose KPS score increased. The main toxicities were leukopenia (incidence of 42 % for grade Ⅲ+ Ⅳ) and trombocytopenia (incidence of 18. 2 % for grade Ⅲ+ Ⅳ) . Conclusion The combination of navelbine and caboplatin is a feasible well-tolerated and active scheme in the elderly of advanced NSCLC.
