Fumonisin B1 May Reduced the Doubling Time of Cultured Cells

  • Objective To determine whether fumonisin B1(FB1) affec ts the doubling time of cell strain from cultured human colon adenocarcinoma(Cac o-2),and to probe the possible mechanism that FB1 induced cancer. Methods The fluorescence spectrophotometry was used t o determine the contents of DNA from in situ solubilized cultured cells, the doubling of total DNA contents was used as the quantity doubling of cultured cells. After mat ched the total DNA contents of control groups with the treated groups by FB1,the effect of FB1 on the doubling time of Caco-2 cells was determined. Results The doubling time of control Caco-2 cells was about 39 to 42 hours. However, for the treated groups by FB1,the doubling time of Caco-2 ce lls was 34 to 36 hours. Conclusion Fumonisin B1 obviously reduced the doubling time of t he cells from cultured human colon adenocarcinoma.
