Observations of Recent Effect in Electrochemotheropy of Obstruction of Esophageal Carcinoma

  • Objective To search for a new method to release the esophageal obstruction rapidly. Methods Electrochemical therapy (EChT) was performed by inserting platinum alloy electrodes into the site of the esophageal carcinoma under x-ray guidance with direct current. Results The recent result in 38 advanced esophageal carcinomas was shown as follows:three (7.9%) of them were CR,28(73.7%)PR,7(18.4%)NC,the total effective rate was 81.6%.The esophageal obstruction was improved within three to seven days after the treatment. The meal grade was increased from one to three ranges winthin three to fourteen days (P<0.01).The average esophageal lumen diameters of 38 cases were widened 3.1 times within seven to fourteen days (P<0.01).The effective relief period of one-shot therapy was from one to six months. Conclusion EChT is one of the most effective methods in the treatment of advanced esophageal carcinoma, especially those of restriction type.
