Study on the Disease Burden of Malignant Tumors among Residents of Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province, 2006-2021

Objective To analyse the burden of disease of malignant tumours in Kunshan City from 2006 to 2021, so as to provide evidence for formulating strategies for preventing and treating cancer. Methods To apply the global burden of disease research methodology, and to calculate the indicators of cancer incidence, mortanlity, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) in Kunshan by using the data from the  Tumour Registry System and Death Registry System in Kunshan, and to compare the changes of cancer. Results In 2021, the number of incidence, deaths and the DALYs of cancer were 4 724cases, 1 618 cases and 20 887.90 person-years, and the incidence rate, mortality rate and DALY rate were 427.42/100,000, 146.39/100,000 and 18.90/thousand, compare to 2006, the incidence rate increased by 53.40%, and the mortality rate and DALY rate decreased by 24.23% and 25.73%, respectively.The DALY rate of cancer was higher for males than for females, at 22.12/thousand and 15.91/thousand in 2021, respectively. the DALY rate increased with age, it began to rise sharply after 45 years of age. The DALY of the top 10 cancer in 2021 was lung cancer, stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, leukaemia, oesophageal cancer, brain and nervous system cancer, gallbladder and biliary tract cancer , which accounted for 83.83% of all cancer.The proportion of YLD in DALY increased continuously(0.27 in 2021),with females increasing faster than man. Conclusions The disease burden of cancer in Kunshan City is still high, there is a need to reduce the incidence of cancer through the development of comprehensive measures, and to continue to strengthen the capacity of cance early screening and treatment.
