Expression of Serum miR-1246 in Patients with Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Its Clinical Significance

  • Objective To investigate the expression of miR-1246 in the serum of patients with cervical squamous cell carcinoma, and to analyze the value of diagnosis, postoperative recovery and recurrence monitoring in the treatment of cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
Methods The expression of serum miR-1246 were detected in cervical squamous cell carcinoma patients, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN) patients and healthy controls using RT-qPCR. And we analyzed the correlation between the expression of miR-1246 and clinicopathological features. We followed up 60 patients with cervical squamous cell carcinoma and 8 patients with recurrence of cervical squamous cell carcinoma and monitored the expression of serum miR-1246 levels. Serum miR-1246 was evaluated as a tumor marker for postoperative recovery and postoperative recurrence monitoring.
Results Compared with CIN patients and healthy women, the expression level of serum miR-1246 was significantly increased in cervical squamous cell carcinoma patients (P < 0.001). The high expression level of miR-1246 was closely related to FIGO stage, tumor size, lymph node metastasis and vascular invasion in patients with cervical squamous cell carcinoma (all P < 0.05). That the expression level of miR-1246 in the serum of patients with cervical squamous cell carcinoma decreased gradually from one week (0.60±0.46) to one month after surgery (0.42±0.28) (P < 0.001). And one month after the operation, the serum miR-1246 level of the patients recovered to a healthy level. However, the expression level of serum miR-1246 in 8 patients with recurrent cervical squamous cell carcinoma was significantly higher than that in healthy women (P < 0.05).
Conclusion Serum miR-1246 contributes to the early diagnosis and postoperative recovery monitoring of cervical squamous cell carcinoma and could be used as an auxiliary judgment indicator for postoperative recurrence of cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
