Objective To explore the temporal trends of leukemia death rates in Kunshan city, Jiangsu Province, 1993-2014.
Methods Leukemia death cases were collected from vital registry from 1993 to 2014 in Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province. Crude death rate of leukemia were estimated and age standardized death rate (ASR) were calculated according to the 2000 Chinese Standard Population. Annual percentage changes (APC) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to examine the time trend of leukemia mortality.
Results From 1993 to 2014, 570 leukemia death cases were registered, accounting for 2.19% of the total cancers, of which 312 were male and 258 were female. Leukemia crude death rate were stable in both gender (APC=1.5, 95%CI: 0.0-3.0, P=0.0604), male (APC=0.8, 95%CI: -0.6%-2.2%, P=0.2756) and female (APC=2.7, 95%CI: 0.0-5.4, P=0.0622). Furthermore, the age standardized death rate were stable and no significantly change in both sex (APC=1.5, 95%CI: 0.0-3.0, P=0.0604), male (APC=-0.7, 95%CI: -2.4-1.0, P=0.4087) and female (APC=0.4, 95%CI: -2.3-3.1, P=0.7612).
Conclusion Although the mortality rate of leukemia is stable from 1993 to 2014 in Kunshan City, the death number of leukemia is increasing year by year, therefore, it is necessary to carry out the prevention and control of leukemia in the general population.
