Death of Malignant Tumors and Potential Years of Life Lost Among Residents in Shandong Province, 2010-2012

  • Objective By analyzing residents malignant tumor death situation and potential years of life lost in Shandong Province from 2010 to 2012,to carry out effective scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of malignant tumors.
    Methods We calculated the indexes such as death rate,standardized mortality,potential years of life lost,life lost rate and average year of life lost.
    Results The mortality of malignant tumor was 170.93/100 000,and the standardized mortality was 14 722/100 000; the top five of malignant tumor mortality among residents was followed by lung cancer,gastric cancer,liver cancer,esophageal cancer,colorectal cancer; total potential years of life lost(PYLL) of malignant tumor was 240474 person years,the rate of potential years of life lost (PYLLR) was 1.61%,and the average years of life lost (AYLL) was 20.71 years. The top five of PYLLR were lung cancer,liver cancer,stomach cancer,esophageal cancer and leukemia. And the top five of AYLL were leukemia,brain cancer,breast cancer,lymphoma and ovarian cancer.
    Conclusion  Lung cancer,stomach cancer,liver cancer,esophageal cancer and colorectal cancer are the most dangerous malignant tumor in Shandong Province. Breast cancer is an important cause of female malignant tumor death. The specific prevention and treatment should be carried out to improve the quality of life of the population.
