Relationship between Local Recurrence and Anterior Commissure Involvement in Early Glottic Laryngocarcinoma after Radiofrequency Coblation

  • Objective To analyze the relationship between local recurrence and anterior commissure involvement in early glottic laryngocarcinoma after radiofrequency coblation. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the data of 73 early glottic laryngocarcinoma patients treated with radiofrequency coblation from June 2008 to October 2013, including 25 cases with anterior commissure involvement and the other 48 cases without. The follow-up period ranged from 18 to 82 months. The local recurrence rate between the involvement and non-involvement of anterior commissure was compared. Results Local recurrence were detected in the 73 cases with early glottic laryngocarcinoma after radiofrequency coblation, 4 cases died and local recurrence was found in 11 cases. The local recurrence rate was 15.07%(11/73). The recurrence rates of Tis, T1a, T1b and T2 were 0%, 8.33%(3/36), 41.67%(5/12) and 33.33%(3/9), respectively. In 25 cases with anterior commissure involvement, the local recurrence rate was 36%(9/25). In 48 cases without anterior commissure involvement, the local recurrence rate was 4.17%(2/48). Significant differences were found between the two groups(P<0.05). Conclusion After radiofrequency coblation on early glottic laryngocarcinoma patients, a higher recurrence rate is found in the lesions with anterior commissure involvement, which still needs further research.
