Development of Peritoneal Carcinomatosis from Gastric Cancer and Current Status of Treatment in China

  • Peritoneal metastasis leading to peritoneal carcinomatosis is one of the most frequent patterns of cancer spreading from gastric cancer, and the major cause of treatment failure with significant negative impacts on patient's prognosis. For peritoneal carcinomatosis from gastric cancer, systemic chemotherapy, peritoneal chemotherapy and palliative surgery only achieve very limited clinical efficacy. In comparison, the therapeutic measures of cytoreductive surgery plus hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy could significantly increase the treatment effects. This paper reviews the current therapeutic status of peritoneal carcinomatosis from gastric cancer in China and the international developments in this field.
