Analysis of Clinical Features and Prognostic Factors of Male Breast Cancer:A Review of 40 Cases

  • Objective To investigate the prognostic factors in patients with male breast cancer(MBC). Methods A total of 40 patients with MBC treated in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University between January,1990 and May,2011 were analyzed retrospectively.Kaplan-Meier,Log rank test and Cox regression model were used to analyze the prognostic variables. Results The follow-up rate was 100%.The total 5-year overall survival was 67.5%.Univariate analysis indicated that the tumor size, axillary lymph node status,ER and PR status,TNM stage, operation model and endocrine therapy were significant predictors of survival.Multivariate analysis showed that TNM stage, operation model and endocrine therapy were independent prognostic factors. Conclusion Early diagnosis and comprehensive treatment consisting of operation and endocrine therapy can significantly improve the survival of MBC.
