Application of Endoscopic Ultrasonograph in T and N Staging of Esophageal Carcinoma

ObjectiveTo value the accuracy of ultrasonic endoscope(EUS) in T and N staging of esophageal carcinoma. Methods Forty patients with esophageal carcinoma underwent examine．T and N staging were estimated by EUS，and the results were compared with the pathologic results. Results The overall accuracy of EUS in identifying the depth of invasion of esophageal wall(T) was 85%.In the assessment of lymph node involvement(N),EUS showed an overall accuracy of 77.5%,and its sensitive,specificity,positive predictive value and negative predictive value was 78.6%,76.9%,64.7% and 86.9%, respectively. Conclusion EUS may be a valuable procedure for both T and N staging of esophageal carcinoma before operation.
