Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of fibulin-5 in human glioma tissues. Methods The different expression of fibulin-5 in normal brain tissue and glioma are analyzed by immunohistochemical stain combined with image analysis. Results Fibulin-5 is mainly distributed in cells, and its expression in parenchymal cells and vascular endothelial cells also can be detected. Fibulin-5 expresses in all seven cases of normal brain tissue (100%), and in 4 of 19 in the high-grade glioma cases (22%), and in 13 of 21 in low grade glioma group cases (62%).The positive expression rate of the fibulin-5 protein and the average immuno-reactive score points have no statistical difference between normal brain tissue samples and low-grade gliomas (P>0.05); The positive expression rate of the fibulin-5 protein and the average immuno-reactive score points in high grade glioma are lower than normal brain tissue and low grade glioma, it has statistical difference (P<0.05). In glioma tissues, the expression of fibulin-5 protein in different sex and age has no statistical difference (P>0.05). Conclusion Fibulin-5 could is expressed in the normal brain tissue. The expression of fibulin-5 may correlate with the process and the angiogenesis of gliomas.
