Diagnosis and Treatment of Pituitary Adenoma in Children

Objective To sum up the experience in the individualized therapy of pituitary adenoma in children. Methods The clinical presentations,hormone assays,imaging studies and individualized therapy in 13 patients with pediatric pituitary adenomas were analyzed retrospectively.In this group of cases，eleven cases were treated with operation,two cases were treated with gamma knife. Results Tumors were completely removed in 9 cases and subtotally in 2 cases.The symptoms in the eleven cases which were long-term followed up have been well controlled. Conclusion Multi-hormone secreting type is the most common pathological type in the pediatric pituitary adenomas.Transcranial surgery is as important as transsphenoidal surgery in the pediatric pituitary adenomas.Gamma knife treatment is a considerable treatment plan.
