Expression and Significance of HIF-1αand VEGF in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

  • Objective We examined the expression of HIF-1αgene and its relationship with VEGF protein in non-small lung cancer. Methods Immunohistochemical was used to examine the expression of HIF-1α and VEGF in 68 NSCLC tissue section . Results Positive HIF-1α and VEGF expression was noted 62 % and 69. 1 % in 68 NSCLC tissue section respectively. In 20 cases of non2malignant tissue sections, HIF-1αexpression was not detected and VEGF expression was only in 2 cases. The result showed : (1) there was no significant difference among age, sex, histopathological type, tumor size ( P > 0. 05) . (2) Tumor differentiation, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage correlated with the expression of HIF-1α and VEGF( P < 0. 01) . (3) HIF-1α level positively correlated with VEGF level ( P < 0. 01) . Conclusion The detection of VEGF and HIF-1αplay an important role in prognosis and t reatment of NSCLC.
