Relationship between Expression of NCAM and PCNA in Glioma

  • Objective The expression of NCAM and PCNA in different pathological classification of glioma was examined in order to explore the correlation between NCAM and PCNA.Method NCAM and PCNA were immunostained by SP immunohistochemical method in the sections of 8 normal brain tissues and 51 gilomas. Results All normal brain tissues express NCAM.NCAM expression was positive in 95.2% (20/21),52.6%(10/19),18.2%(2/11) of GradeⅠ~Ⅱ glioma,GradeⅢ glioma,GradeⅣ glioma respectively.The amount of tumor cell positively stained for NCAM decreased with the degree of histologic malignancy.An inverse corrleation was observed between the amount of NCAM expression and PCNA labelling index (r=-0.67,P<0.01). Conclusion s The results suggest that the amount of NCAM expression in glioma is an inverse correlation with histologic malignancy and cell proliferative activity of glioma.NCAM low expression might be one of characteristics of malignant glioma.
