Sol itary Splenic Metastasis :5 Cases Report

  • Objective  To study the clinical characteristics and t reatment of solitary splenic metastasis. Methods  Five patient s with solitary splenic metastasis were t reated and followed up f rom J anuary 1991 to December 2003 in Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Results  Splenectomy were given to 5 patients. Three patient s with primary ovarian cancer have survived for 4 months、15 months and 136 months respectively post operation. One patient with primary colon cancer has survived for 3 months post operation. One patient with primary lung cancer died 2 months post operation. Conclusion  Close follow - up is important for the detection of solitary splenic metastasis. Splenectomy and adjuvent chemotherapy may improve the survival for the patient s with solitary splenic metastasis.
