Study on the effects of DMF and FAM regimens in the treatment of advanced gastric cancer

  • Objective To study the effect and toxicity of DMF regimen and FAM regimen in the treatment of advanced gastric cancer. Methods From January 1995 to December 1998,56 patients were treated with DMF regimen and FAM regimen. Results In 28 patients treated with DMF regimen, the total response rate was (CR+PR)53.6%. In 28 patients treated with FAM regimen, the total response rate was (CR+PR)57.2%.The response rates in both groups were handled statistically with x2(P>0.05).There were no apparent differences. The toxicity in DMF and FAM group all have maucea, vomithing and myelosupperession.Gastrointestinal toxicity in DMF group was more severe than that in FAM group and the myelosupperession was mild. There were apparent baldness in FAM group, and 2 patients hnd cardiac events. The nephrotoxicity in DMF group can be prevented by hydration. Conclusion The effects in DMF group were similar to the FAM group, and the toxicity was tolerable. There were no baldness, cardiac events and the price was low.So we suggest that the DMF regimen is worthy to be recommended to patients with advanced gastric cancer.
