The Expression of HIF-1α and Its Relationship to Apoptosis and Prognostic Signif icance in Human Glioma

  • Objective To explore the expression of HIF-1α inglioma and the relationship between its expression and bcl-2 、bax and Prognostic of patients. Methods Expression of HIF-1α bcl-2 and bax was assessed by immunohistochimistry staining in 45 cases of glioma and 10 cases of normal brain tissue. Results HIF-1α was expressed in 28 of 45 (62. 2 %) cases of glioma, and not expressed the normal brain tissue. There were significant difference between low grade ( I~II) and high grade ( III~IV) of glioma ( P< 0. 05) . HIF-1α was significantly correlated with expression level of bcl-2 and bax ( rs = - 0. 777 ; rs =0. 720, P < 0. 01) . There also was a correlation between HIF-1α expression and the two-year survival time ( P < 0. 05) . Conclusion The over expression of HIF-1α plays an important role in the apoptosis of glioma. It closely relates with the prognosis of glioma patients.
