Abstract:
Objective To study the effect of radiotherapy for locoregionally recurrent esophageal cancer after surgery. Methods From Apri 1997 to October 2003, 52 cases of locoregional recurrence were received radiotherapy. In all cases, radiation was administered 2 Gy per f raction and 5 fractions per week, with the total dose of 4800 cGy~7000 cGy. Twenty2two patient s were received PF (DDP + 5-Fu) or NP (NVB +DDP) chemotherapy af ter radiotherapy. Results The overall median survival time was 12 months and 1, 2, 3 year survival rates were 48. 1 %, 25. 4 % and 14. 0 %, respectively. Post-surgical stage, dose of radiation, combined radiochemotherapy and response rates were closely related to prognosis. Conclusion To patients with locoregional recurrence after surgery of esophageal carcinoma, radiotherapy is an effective method and combined therapy may prolong survival.
