Abstract: Objective 　To explore the application of submental island flap in repairing tissue detect af ter oral maxillofacial region neoplasm resection. Methods 　Analysis the influence of head and neck radiotherapy and neck metastasis lymph node for the flap by observation clinical effect in the near future of cases used submental island flap for repair defects. Results 　12 submental island flaps were applied for reconst ruction of oral maxillofacial region defect s following cancer ablation between August of 2002 and February of 2004. 6 of these were postoperative radiotherapy at both donor site and receive site, and 5 neck were dissected when resection primary lesion simultaneously. 11 cases were alive. One submental island flap was partly necrosis. All repaired cases have well matched skin for facial resurfacing and excellent texture for int raoral function. Conclusion 　Because of it s short distance, convenient operation, concealed area, fitting thickness and kept alive, submental island flap was an idea choice in preparing oral maxillofacial region defect . Routine postoperative radiation doses do not influence the success and healing of the flap. For tumor complete resection, appropriate cases should be chosen.
